How to plan for a wonderful zero waste event

Now zero waste events become the target of all catering service companies in Egypt.
However, Catering Plus considers this issue, as one of our priorities, we seek to provide our services to be environment friendly.

When we provide our catering services, we take into consideration the principle of “zero waste” which doesn’t mean saving the remaining quantities of food only but beverages, and table spaces also.

“In the Arab countries where the food loss and food waste generated per person sometimes exceeds 210 kg per year.”
According to

We have an approach that any waste elements whether from food or beverage could be reintegrated into the food and beverage through the end of the event. In Catering Plus we realized that the “zero waste” concept could support the sustainability of the environment.
We are proud to apply this approach in our event management.

Above all, in our facility management, Catering Plus is providing specialists tasked with discovering and eliminating insects and pests using environmentally friendly chemicals that are approved by local and international standards.

In this article, we collected the most important tips that support you when planning for an amazing zero waste event:

1- The invites:

To be environment friendly in the catering services, where we live in the technology era, the communication methods with your guests changed more than in the past. When you plan for a special sustainable event, no need to send printed invitation cards, instead of that you could send emails or messages to their mobiles which will reduce postage costs.
Moreover, you could send them seed papers of plantable wildflower, this idea will encourage them to start farming these seed papers and expand the green area. Think to write on the package of seeds ” we invite you to join us for a zero waste event.
No problem bringing anything such as food, games, etc.
But under one important condition that ensures it doesn’t end up in the trash at the end of the event.”

In addition, to prepare for the event management, arrange your thoughts and use the backsides of paper as drafts until you select the best ideas to execute. Use paper with recycled content and print double-sided for all event materials.

Other ideas you could apply, for example, to publicize your event via e-mail and web sites.

2- The decoration:

It has also a direct relation with the zero waste event, the simple decoration is more beautiful than the complicated one where the second one consumes more budget. So no need to purchase expensive decorations which could harm the environment around us.

When dealing with supplier catering services companies, it is better to ask them what is the process they follow to achieve zero waste?
Consider using regular dishes and glasses or compostable versions.
There is another idea you could apply, by using LED lights to decrease power consumption.

4- Prepare recycling stations:

Provide the required baskets and put them in a visible place for all guests and mark it with clear signs to help guests reach it.
Sign a contract with a composter or recycling company to help you with the disposal.
The recycling company will advise you on the best location to put the zero waste station and provide the proper bin size.

5- Use plastic protocol and one use cups:

You need to have sustainable alternatives for zero waste events.
You could replace plastic bottles with thermoses.
Remind your guests to bring their reusable bottles or plate.
Make sure to provide the alternatives if they forgot.
You may need to write the name of your guest on his cup to ensure they will use it themselves, this is good advice for best event management.

When using paper for food or eating services, use plates, cups, and silverware made of recycled content.
Also, organize a small even, one of your guests could be a volunteer to take paper ware home to compost over time, while other paper products will put in a backyard compost bin.
